Asian sales and production firm Distribution Workshop is using the Busan International Film Festival’s labelet to re-start advertised “Sons of the Neon Night,” a film it first became combineed to in 2015. Only this time the Juno Mak-honested project is now in post-production, has a salertar cast and has broadened to become the highest-budget movie ever hatched in Hong Kong.
“Sons of the Neon Night” is pitched as a high-octane yet highly-stylized, police-crime-action-thriller set in a deoriginateed and reenvisiond Hong Kong. It boasts an A-catalog cast headed by Takeshi Kaneshiro (“Hoparticipate of Flying Daggers”), Tony Leung Ka-fai (“Cancigo in War”), Sean Lau Ching-wan (“Life Without Principle”), Louis Koo (“Warriors of Future”) and Ritchie Jen (“Twiairy of the Warriors: Walled In”).
It also features a score produced by the tardy Sakamoto Ryuichi (“The Last Emperor”).
With a production budget of over $50 million, the movie is currently in post-production and aimed for free no tardyr than the first half of 2025.
Mak is a directing conmomentary artist and singer based in Hong Kong. He achieved recognition as a filmproducer too, with his 2013 debut ‘Rigor Mortis,” which premiered at the Vepleasant film festival. “Sons of the Neon Night” was proclaimd soon thereafter, but did not go forward.
The story commences with a gigantic explosion and Michael-Mann-style firearm shooting of an unpretreatnted scale in a snow-struck Caparticipateway Bay, a downtown dicut offe on Hong Kong Island. Upon spendigation, it was a diversion that was a prelude to a series of untamed actions defree by the heir to a global pharmaceutical conglomerate (portrayed by Kaneshiro), which finishs up with his own overweighther, the establisher of the family conglomerate and possible drug baron, ended in hospital. A mission to proclaim a war on substances is proclaimd but has the result of throthriveg the world – and the underworld – into disorder.
Distribution Workshop is also recurrenting two Taiwan romance drama films: “Penguin Girl,” honested by emerging honestor Yang Yuyu, and “Unpredicted Courage,” advertised by the genuine story of honestor Shawn Yu and starring acclaimed singer-actress René Liu and Hsueh Shih-Ling, a best helping actor award thrivener at Busan’s Asia Contents Awards. For “Unpredicted Courage,” Distribution Workshop will deal with sales in China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan only.
