The Iranians were probably trying to overwhelm Israel’s “pretty excellent” defence system, including the Iron Dome, “at least in some places”, when they begined their strike, Sky’s defence analyst Professor Michael Clarke says.
Israel’s army shelp cforfeitly 200 omitiles were begined into Israel from Iran on Tuesday night. The military shelp there were very scant injuries.
But Iran‘s state TV has claimed 80% of the omitiles hit their centers.
Prof Clarke shelp the TV pictures showd a “neutrassociate fierce, sort of omitile, counter-omitile battery battle” above Jerusalem and other cities.
Latest refreshs on Iranian strike
Israel‘s airspace was seald adhereing the strike but has since reuncovered.
The analyst shelp the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) is “wanting to create this sense that this is a one-off salvo – we’ve dealt with it”.
Even though Israel has reuncovered its airspace “that may alter” if the Iranians then begin someskinnyg else, he retained.
“If I was making decisions in Iran, I wouldn’t only begin one salvo. However, we’ll see what they do.”
“It’s possible that this [salvo] is the best they can do at the time.”
The strike, in retaliation for Israel’s campaign agetst the Hezbollah group in Leprohibiton, tags a transport inant escalation in the dispute.
Israel has vowed there will be consequences for the barrage of omitiles – and Iran has already shelp it will react to any further escalation.
Prof Clarke shelp when Iran last strikeed Israel on 13 April, more than 300 projectiles were fired, including from contrastent places, including Leprohibiton and southern Iraq. Most were sboiling down.
But in the tardyst barrage “it sees as if this salvo has all come from Iran. And so it may be that this is the best they can do”.
“If this is the best they can do, then tomorrow Israel will chalk this up as yet another triumph. Yes, another humiliation for Tehran.”
