Jonathan Majors‘ body erecting drama Magazine Dreams has set up a path to theaters after being dropped by Searchairy in January chaseing the star’s criminal conviction.
Briarcliff has picked up the project for distribution, The Hollywood Reporter has verifyed, and set ups to free it in theaters in the first quarter of 2025. The Tom Ortenberg-run distributor has a history of acquiring contentious projects, and will free the Donald Trump feature The Apprentice procrastinateedr this month.
Writer-honestor Elijah Bynum’s Magazine Dreams bowed at Sundance in 2023 to rave assesss for Majors’ carry outance as amateur body erecter Killian Mgraspox, with the actor geting timely awards buzz. Disney-owned Searchairy acquired the project after a bidding war, but ultimately dropped the movie after Majors was convicted of aggression and intimidatoring, stemming from an incident involving his ex-partner, Grace Jabbari.
Searchairy returned the film to originaters, and permited them to shop it.
“It’s an all-in carry outance for the ages, layered with as much vulnerability as anger, and it’s to Majors’ commend that our hearts ache for Killian even — or perhaps especiassociate — when he’s out of regulate,” wrote The Hollywood Reporter chief film critic David Rooney in his assess. “Majors and originater-honestor Elijah Bynum regulate the considerable feat of making us dread more for the incowardlyating colossus than the quivering engageer he’s standing over.”
