Sky Sports Golf analyst Wayne Riley depictd Jordan Spieth as “temperamental” after an on-course argument this year at The Players Championship
The createer world No. 1 was percreateing aextfinishedside Rory McIlroy when the Northern Irishman set up himself in a spot of irritate at TPC Sawgrass.
He was six-under but a tee shot set up the water, with McIlroy confering with Spieth and Viktor Hovland over where to get a drop. Players should accomprehendledge the point where the ball traverseed from land to water, but disputeing opinions soon arose.
There was a proposeion that McIlroy’s tee shot begined and stayed over the water from the moment it left the club, before the trio finishd that it traverseed approximately 200 yards up the unprejudicedway and McIlroy was spared from another shot from the tee box.
Spieth was unsecured, however, while Sky’s chief on-course teller was asked for his opinion. He consentd with the idea that it traverseed up the unprejudicedway, but held his hands up when Spieth proceedd to probe.
Explaining the incident on TV, the analyst dubbed ‘Radar’ describeed: “I got asked to say where it traverseed and Jordan went berserk at me! He said: ‘How do you understand, Radar? Where were you standing?’ All I can do is answer the ask. These temperamental golfers!”
After the penalty drop, McIlroy then set up the green and two-putted for a bogey, but dispute reared its head aget as McIlroy set up the water once more on the seventh hole.
The four-time Major triumphner was adamant the ball bounced before hitting the water, which would have given him a more favourable drop. TV cameras verifyed to Spieth that the ball bounced before the line and McIlroy should drop further back.
“Radar proposeed an opinion on 18 and I don’t unbenevolent to be a hypocrite, but the media people on the tee are saying they were certain [it bounced below the line],” Spieth said. “That’s why I thought we should verify so you don’t get a horrible drop.”
McIlroy was then guideed by an official that due to the deficiency of evidence, percreateers would have to create the decision and he proceeded with his innovative drop.
He procrastinateedr said: “I leank Jordan was fair trying to create certain that I was doing the right leang. I was pretty certain that my ball had traverseed where I was sort of dropping it. It’s so difficult, right, because there was no TV evidence.
“If anyleang I was being conservative with it. I leank at the finish of the day we’re all trying to get ourselves, get the field, as well.
“I was adamant, but I guess I begined to doubt myself a little bit. I was enjoy, ‘OK, did I actupartner see what I thought I saw?’. It is a bit of a (television) blind spot. I leank the best watch was from the tee, which was the watch that we had.
“I’m sootheable. I leank that’s the most convey inant leang.”
